This is the first poetry book that I have read in years. the day is ready for you is the first book in a duology by Alison Malee. While it isn’t a poetry book for someone who’s new to poetry, you don’t have to be a connoisseur to enjoy it. Alison uses basic metaphors that are easy to connect to. I don’t usually put tabs in my books, but this one has quite a few. I used tabs to note my favorite poems and lines. This book is perfect for reading in short bursts or even one or two at a time.

The three sections of the book are a great way to divide reading sessions. I was able to read each in a sitting and that gave me plenty to think about and enjoy. I found the first two sections particularly relatable. While it may not be relatable to everyone, I feel it’s important that everyone find poetry that is relatable to them. I think the reason I enjoyed the first two sections more, was due to their relatability to me. The third section focus shifted and I wasn’t able to follow.

Overall, a fantastic book and I look forward to reading her next one.
